Gov’t vows to give Filipino women the honor they deserve – Palace

MANILA, Philippines – The government is committed to give Filipino women “the recognition they properly deserve,” Malacañang said Thursday, after the Philippines climbed two notches higher in the latest Global Gender Gap.

In the Global Gender Gap Report 2018 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Tuesday, the Philippines now ranks eight in the GLOBAL ranking from 10th in 2017.

“The Palace welcomes the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Global Gender Gap Index placing the Philippines as the most gender equal nation in Asia,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement on Thursday.

“The Philippines continues to aspire for inclusive development where there is equality and genuine collaboration between men and women, and we are honored that our efforts have been given global recognition,” Panelo added.

The country received high Global Gender Gap scores in the areas of educational attainment (ranked #1), political empowerment (ranked #13), and economic participation and opportunity (ranked #14).

“These findings highlight the government’s commitment to give Filipino women the recognition that they properly deserve, particularly their contributions in the home, in the workplace, in the community, and in nation building,” Panelo said.

President Rodrigo Duterte and his administration, he said, “have always believed in the competence and capability of women, and we commit to further promote substantive equality in our society as we maintain to uphold the rights and dignity of women.” /kga
