A tourist in Dubai, United Arab Emirates head-butted a cop and tried hitting another officer with a liquor bottle while resisting arrest.

The unnamed 23-year-old Saudi national was formally charged on Tuesday, Nov. 27 for assaulting the officers and verbally abusing them, The Khaleej Times reported today, Nov. 28.

During the private prosecution investigation, one of the officers narrated how the incident happened last Aug. 26. He said a woman saw the accused running while holding the bottle, and was being chased by his father and a security guard.

“He tried to hit me with it on my face. But I protected myself and got injured in my hand,” the officer said in the report.

As the man was caught, officers thought he was finally under control. While he was being handcuffed by the officer and was about to be brought to the police car, he suddenly head-butted the other officer, which gave the officer an eye injury.

The man admitted during the investigation that he drank alcohol when the incident occurred. He also denied in court that he assaulted them, saying he was too drunk at that time to remember what happened.

The report stated that the court will hand down a decision on the man’s case on Dec. 18. Katrina Hallare/JB
