A 47-year-old woman in Guangzhou, China has sued all the tenants as well as the landlord of an industrial plant, after she was paralyzed from the neck down when a dog fell from the establishment, hitting her on her head in April this year.
None of the tenants admitted to owning the dog during the hearing held on Friday, Nov. 23, as reported by the Guangzhou Daily via South China Morning Post today, Nov. 26. The electronics plant owner of the second-floor unit from which the dog fell from also denied responsibility.
Even the industrial complex’s landlord asserted he has nothing to do with the incident. He said that because he was not using the property directly, he should not be accountable for what happened.
A CCTV footage of the incident circulated Chinese social media earlier this year, the report said. The woman (identity withheld) was seen collapsing after a large cream-colored dog fell from the building. The woman was unconscious after the incident, while the dog walked away.
The woman apparently moved to Guangzhou from Hubei province to earn more money for their son’s marriage fund — also known as “bride price,” a fee paid by a groom’s family to a bride’s before the wedding. Because of the incident, however, both her son and husband were forced to resign from their jobs to take care of her.
The woman’s husband and son would take turns massaging her every two hours so that her muscles will not degenerate, as per report. She also has to visit the hospital for treatment every two weeks.
“In total, our living and medical expenses are about 300,000 yuan (over P2.2 million) now,” her husband said in the report. “We just want the legal procedure to be over so we can take the compensation for her treatment.” Kate Matriano/JB
