Former First Lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte 2nd Dist. Rep. Imelda Marcos appeared to be in high spirits even after the Sandiganbayan convicted her for seven counts of graft.

FEATURED STORIES

After the Fifth Division allowed her to post bail, the wife of late former President Ferdinand Marcos was seen sharing a laugh with her daughter, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.

Other Marcos children Irene Marcos-Araneta and former Senator Bongbong Marcos were also in attendance.

Mrs. Marcos was found guilty of transferring funds to Swiss foundations while occupying key government positions.  As the cases against her were promulgated on November 9, neither Mrs. Marcos nor her previous legal counsel attended the court proceeding.

This prompted the anti-graft court to seek an explanation from her.  Mrs. Marcos’ camp said in a motion filed on Monday that her doctor advised her not to engage in stressful activities, as she has at least seven ailments.

During the hearing on Friday, Mrs. Marcos said that aside from her sickness, she was also not aware of the promulgation’s schedule, as her former counsel lawyer Robert Sison was sick and failed to inform her. /jpv/ac
