USC, CIS win openers, gain share of top spot

The University of San Carlos (USC) and Cebu International School (CIS) opened their campaigns with hard-earned wins in the Men’s Under 19 of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

USC whipped the Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy, 3-1, while CIS edged Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI), 4-3.

USC and CIS joined Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH) at the top of the leaderboard with a win apiece and no loss.

In the lone Girls Under 17 match, St. Theresa’s College (STC) B compensated for their sister team’s loss during the opening day with a 4-2 thrashing of CIS.

In the Boys 14, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and MTI share the top spot with two wins apiece.

The Magis Eagles blanked Blessed John, 2-0, while MTI routed Cebu Learning Foundation (CLF), 3-0.

Springdale stretched their winning streak to two with a 5-2 win over CIS.

Guiseppe FC, Bright Academy, Subangdaku Football Club (SFC) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) 2 had a field day after blanking their respective opponents in the Boys 12 category.

DBTC 2 posted a 9-0 demolition of Saint Augustine International School (SAIS) FC, SFC routed Mactan Airbase Elementary School (MABES), 7-0; Bright Academy dumped Center for International Education (CIE), 3-0 while Giuseppe FC trounced Cebu Eastern College, 3-0.

In the Players 10, DBTC 1 exploded with a 12-0 rout of CIE while its sister team DBTC 5 blanked CLF, 7-0. DBTC 4 also posted a win with a 5-1 thrashing of CIS.

The category also saw two matches ending in draws —CIE 2 vs. SFC at 1-all and SHS-AdC vs. Giuseppe FC also at 1-all.

In other matches, Bright Minds Active Learning Village (BMALV) blanked Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS), 4-0; Springdale blanking San Roque Football Club (SRFC) 3-0; and Canduman Dedon edging HIS, 2-1.

Teams in the Players 8 category also won their matches by blanking their opponents.

Canduman Dedon posted a 9-0 win over DBTC 3; DBTC 4 creamed Magis Eagles, 4-0; CPMS nipped DBTC A, 1-0; HIS thrashed DBTC 1, 3-0; BMALV edged DBTC B, 1-0; and Bright Academy A topped SRFC, 1-0.

Other games saw DBTC 2 outwitting its sister team DBTC 3, 4-1; and Springdale lording over DBTC C, 5-1.

Posting wins in the Players 6 were SRFC, SHS-AdC, and BMALV. SRFC edged DBTC, 1-0; SHS-AdC routed MABES, 4-0; and BMALV demolished Bright B, 7-0.

Bright A ended its match against CPMS in a scoreless draw while Giuseppe FC also finished its match against Canduman Dedon with a 1-all draw.
