P3.4M shabu seized in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – About half a kilo of shabu worth about P3.4 million was seized from a drug personality Tuesday night in this city.

Darmalyn Jumlail, information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Western Mindanao said the drug was confiscated through a buy-bust operation around 6:50 p.m., Tuesday in Barangay San Jose Gusu.

The raid also yielded one drug personality identified as Jessi Borro Hassim also known as Jan-jan Barry Usman, 25, a driver of
a public utility vehicle.

“We have confiscated one transparent plastic of suspected shabu weighing 500 grams with an estimated street value of P3.4 million. The suspect is also facing charges of violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002),” Jumlail said.

“Once convicted, Hassim faces life imprisonment,” Jumlail said.

Jumlail said PDEA elements and members of the Zamboanga City Police Office, as well as anti-drug operatives of the Police Station 11, conducted the drug raid.

The top leadership of the Regional Police Office 9 (PRO9) said only three of the 98 barangays in Zamboanga City have been cleared of drugs.

Of 1,904 barangays in the Zamboanga Peninsula, 562 were already cleared, “so there is still 70 percent of 1904 that is for drug clearing,” Chief Supt. Emmanuel Licup, PRO0 regional director, said.

“If the barangay officials can’t clean their barangays in two months period, then we will have to put them back to drug-affected barangays,” Licup added.

He also confirmed that 31 of his policemen in the region have been tested positive of drug use.

Twenty-one of the 31 are from Zamboanga City, Licup said.

Fifteen have been dismissed from service, two opted for optional retirement, and seven are still under summary proceedings.
