Terminal fees for both local and international flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) will be raised in April 2019.
Naia General Manager Ed Monreal on Wednesday said the increase in fees is needed to help sustain the improvements of airports in the country.
“Kumpara natin within the region, tayo na pinakamalayo so far sa terminal fee. Kailangan natin ng pangtustos para masustain ang improvements na makukuha sa revenue para madagdagan ang ating funding,” Monreal said in a press conference.
According to Monreal, the agency had planned to increase the terminal fee for international flights from the current P500 to P750.
Meanwhile, the terminal fee for local flights will be increased to P300 from the current P200.
Despite the increase of terminal fees at Naia, Monreal said terminal fees for international and domestic flights at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and at the Clark International Airport will not be raised.
He added that the raise on terminal fees will contribute at least one percent to the gross income of Naia.
Monreal said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) remain exempted from paying terminal fees, Monreal said. /muf
