The Indonesian Finance Ministry said 21 employees were on board a Lion Air flight that crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff on yesterday.

The aircraft departed Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport en route to Pangkal Pinang, carrying a total of 189 people before it lost contact. Rescue workers had found aircraft debris, passengers’ belongings and remains in an area of sea northeast of Jakarta.

The employees on board Flight JT 610 worked in Pangkal Pinang according to the ministry. Some of them were in Jakarta to take part in the ministry’s anniversary event and meetings last weekend; some were also visiting their families.

Meanwhile, the National Search and Rescue Agency, also known as Basarnas, stated it was unlikely anyone survived the disaster. KM
