A Makati Regional Trial Court denied the government’s petition for the arrest of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV for the coup d’etat case filed against him. The court also denied the petition for the issuance of a hold departure order against the senator.
Acting Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon relayed the information in an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.
Reynaldo Robles, chief legal counsel of the senator, also read an excerpt from the court decision in an interview with reporters at the Senate.
Robles also noted that decision ruled that Trillanes had, in fact, filed an application for amnesty and that he did admit his guilt.
But Judge Andres Soriano of Branch 148 affirmed the validity of Proclamation No. 527 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte last Aug. 31.
The proclamation revoked the amnesty granted by President Benigno Aquino III to Trillanes, extinguishing his criminal liability for cases filed against him – a coup d’etat case arising from the 2003 Oakwood Mutiny and a rebellion case arising from the 2007 Manila Peninsula Siege.
The rebellion case was filed at Makati RTC Branch 150, with Judge Elmo Alameda presiding.
Alameda granted the senator’s petition for bail in this case.
Shortly after the release of the decision on the coup d’etat case, Trillanes faced reporters, telling them he was grateful to Judge Soriano who “single-handedly upheld justice and the rule of law.”
He said the decision represented a triumph of justice and the rule of law. /atm
