Former Interior Secretary Rafael “Raffy” Alunan III is joining the race again, gunning for a Senate seat in next year’s midterm elections.

Accompanied by Senator Richard Gordon, Alunan filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Wednesday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office after losing the senatorial race in the 2016 polls.

“Showing my support to a good friend and Bagumbayan candidate for Senator, Raffy Alunan. With his great mind and clean record, he deserves a seat in the Senate. Simulan na ang bagong bayan!” Gordon said in a tweet.

Alunan was chief of the Department of Interior and Local Government during the term of President Fidel Ramos. He also served as Tourism Secretary during President Corazon Aquino’s administration.  /kga
