Comelec opens for COC filing for 2019 elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has begun receiving certificates of candidacy (COC) for senatorial, mayoral, and congressional posts for the 2019 midterm elections.

At exactly 8 a.m., Thursday, the Comelec’s headquarters in Intramuros, Manila, and its local and regional divisions opened their respective desks for those wishing to run in May next year.

Comelec offices will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. starting today up to October 17.

The campaign period for senator and party-list groups will be from February 12 to May 11, according to the calendar of activities released by the Comelec for the polls.

As for candidates for the House of Representatives and elective regional, provincial, city and municipal positions, the campaign period will be from March 30 to May 11.

Political campaigning is banned on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

The Comelec also set the election period from January 13 until June 12, 2019. Election Day will be on May 13. /cbb
