Since erupting in the morning of said day, at around 8.45 p.m., Soputan had emitted plumes of volcanic ash that reached as high as 20,000 feet from the crater.
The government imposed an exclusionary zone of a 2.5-mile radius, increasing the radius to 4 miles in the west and southwest areas, where lava and ash clouds were heading, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Management Agency. JB
