Earthquakes shake Compostela Valley, Batanes early Thursday

Earthquakes jolted Compostela Valley and Batanes Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

A magnitude 4.4 temblor first hit 6 kilometers (km) northeast of Pantukan, Compostela Valley, at 5:44 a.m.

The quake of tectonic origin had a depth of 26 km.

At 6:11 a.m., another earthquake occurred 11 kilometers (km) southeast of Uyugan, Batanes, at a depth of 34 km.

Initial Phivolcs bulletins said no aftershocks or damage were expected from both incidents. /cbb
