Trillanes calls for faster ICC probe after Duterte admits ‘EJK sin’
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to expedite its investigation on President Rodrigo Duterte after his admission that his only “sin” is the extrajudicial killings in the country.
“I would like to take this opportunity to call on the International Criminal Court to expedite the investigation of the crimes against humanity committed by Mr. Duterte against the Filipino people,” he said in a press briefing on Friday.
Trillanes said the latest pronouncement of the President is a “justified” evidence for the probe, as he believes that the ICC will take Duterte’s remark seriously.
According to the senator, Duterte was caught unguarded when he blurted the statement.

“Those remarks uttered in unguarded moments, ‘yun po ‘yung mga bits of truth na lumalabas kay Duterte (those are the bits of truth coming out of Duterte),” he said.
Trillanes also slammed Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque for saying Duterte wasn’t serious in his remark.
“They cannot get away with that alibi anymore,” Trillanes said.
The President earlier made the confession as he criticized Senator Francis Pangilinan for being the author of the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act of 2006. He said the law has produced criminals.

“Ito naman si pontifical Pangilinan, akala mo walang kasalanan kung magsalita (This pontifical Pangilinan speaks as if he doesn’t have any sin),” Duterte said.
“Ako, I will talk to a political exercise now. What are your sins? Ako? Sabi ko nga sa military, ano kasalanan ko? Nagnakaw ba ako diyan ni piso? Did I prosecute somebody na pinakulong ko? Ang kasalanan ko lang ‘yung mga extrajudicial killing,” he added.
