Quezon City business establishments urged by police to install CCTVs

/ 03:11 PM September 27, 2018

Business owners in Quezon City must install CCTVs (closed circuit television cameras) in their respective establishments to help in police  investigations, Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Thursday.

Esquivel said businesses who will not comply with the order will be sanctioned under City Ordinance No. 2695 Series of 2018.

“Let us invest in the security of our business establishments by taking advantage of the benefits from the advance technology,” he said in a statement.

Esquivel said that Section 3 of the ordinance directs business owners to preserve video recordings of the CCTV and make it available to police investigators after a written request.

They should also immediately contact the nearest police station if a crime happens near their areas and provide authorities with access to the CCTV footages, he added.

According to the city ordinance, the installation of CCTVs helps deter criminality in the city.

The ordinance also penalizes violators with a P5,000 fine or should not be issued a business permit or permit to operate.  /muf
