Calida applauds SC decision on Peter Lim: ‘Judicial system in PH is at its best’

Solicitor General Jose Calida has applauded the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to dismiss the petition filed by Cebu-based businessman Peter Go Lim to stop the drug probe against him conducted by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“The OSG (Office of the Solicitor General) is pleased with the Resolution of the Supreme Court that dismissed the Petition for Certiorari of Mr. Peter Go Lim (alias Jaguar),” Calida said in a statement.

“Although Mr. Lim remains at large to this day, the dismissal of his petition stands as proof that the judicial system in the Philippines is at its best,” he added.

In his petition, Lim asked the high tribunal to issue a temporary restraining order against the reinvestigation of his case, which he said was based on allegations that he violated the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act for the sale, administration, dispensation, trading, delivery, and transportation of illegal drugs.

“The OSG took the cudgels as counsel for the PNP-CIDG (Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) and was successful in establishing probable cause that led to the filing of criminal informations in the Regional Trial Court of Makati against Mr. Lim, Mr. Peter Co, Mr. Kerwin Espinosa, et al,” he said.

Earlier this year, the OSG submitted various pieces of evidence to strengthen the government’s case against  Lim, self-confessed drug distributor Kerwin Espinosa, convicted drug-lord Peter Co, and several others. /ee
