Bayan Muna’s Neri Colmenares aims for Senate seat in 2019
Bayan Muna Chairman Neri Colmenares announced on Tuesday that he will be the Makabayan bloc’s official senatorial candidate for the 2019 midterm elections.
Colmenares’ declaration was announced in front of other Makabayan bloc members, such as incumbent Representatives Antonio Tinio and France Castro (ACT Teachers), Carlos Zarate (Bayan Muna), Ariel Casilao (Anakpawis), Arlene Brosas and Emmi de Jesus (Gabriela).
Other Makabayan group members who witnessed the declaration include former Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano, former Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, former Representatives Satur Ocampo and Teddy Casiño.
Colmenares, who is also the president of the National Union People’s Lawyers (NUPL), also ran for the Senate in 2016, wounding up at the 20th rank.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey for possible senatorial candidates for the May 2019 polls, he ranks around 28 to 35. /jpv
