Over 4,800 passengers stranded in different ports due to ‘Ompong’
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said 4,805 passengers were stranded at various ports in Bicol, Eastern and Southern Visayas, Southern Tagalog, and Southwestern Mindanao due to Typhoon “Ompong.”
The PCG’s tally as of 8:00 a.m. on Friday showed the following number of stranded passengers:

The Maritime Industry Authority and the Philippine Coast Guard canceled vessel trips at several ports nationwide because of typhoon “Ompong.”

The typhoon is blowing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph.
It was last spotted 500 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora as of 11 a.m., moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration advised fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with Tropical Cyclone Warning System and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.

Ompong entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to make landfall on the Cagayan-Isabela area on Saturday morning. /vvp
