Gov’t suspends sea voyages at several ports due to ‘Ompong’
(Updated 4:07 p.m., Sept. 14, 2018) Vessel trips were canceled at several ports around the country Friday due to Typhoon “Ompong.”
In an advisory, the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) canceled vessel trips in the following ports:
- Port of Dumaguete City (suspension of vessel trips)
- Port of Ormoc City (cancelled passenger vessel trips
- Benoni Port in Camiguin (all vessel trips)
- Port of Puerto Princesa (shipping operations)
- Port of Calapan
- Port of Puerto Galera
- Port of Roxas
- Port of Bulalacao
- Port of San Jose
- Port of Abra de Ilog
- Port of Lubang
All vessel trips at the Iloilo Ferry Terminal are until 6:00 p.m. only on Friday.
Port authorities are prohibiting passengers and cargoes to enter the Lipata Port, Surigao Base Port, and San Jose Port for safety reasons and to avoid congestion.
Passengers who were already at the affected ports before the trip cancelations are exempted.
Meanwhile, the suspension of vessel trips at the port of Zamboanga City has been lifted.
Typhoon “Ompong” is packing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph.
It was last spotted 470 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora as of 1:00 p.m., moving west-northwest at 25 kph.
Ompong entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to make landfall in the Cagayan-Isabela area on Saturday morning. /vvp / jpv
