Lacierda: Senate must ensure correct process followed in Trillanes case
Former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said there is an ongoing “battle of the institutions” following President Duterte’s revocation of amnesty given by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Lacierda said the “battle” was between Trillanes and the executive branch of the government.
“You have the entire machinery of the executive branch going against one single senator, and at the very least, the Senate must ensure that the process is followed,” Lacierda said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
The job of the Senate, meanwhile, is to ensure that the process leading to the arrest of Trillanes is followed, Lacierda said.
Trillanes has been placed under the custody of the Senate. On Thursday, the Senator, through his counsel, filed a petition with the Supreme Court to nullify the Duterte proclamation order.
