The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has started to adjust the meters of taxi units in Metro Manila, following the approval of the petition for a taxi fare increase.

Under the fare hike petition, the flag down rate of taxis is still at P40 but passengers now have to pay P13.50 per kilometer plus a time rate of P2 per minute.

The board approved the fare increase petition of the taxi industry in October 2017. It’s implementation, however, was set on July 31, 2018.

The meters of about 21,000 taxi units in Metro Manila have to be calibrated to be able to charge their passengers with the new fare structure, the LTFRB said.

According to the board, once the taxi unit has finished the meter standardization process, it would then undergo a road test to ensure that the correct fare has been put in place.

Afterwards, a taxi calibration sticker will be placed on the top right corner of the car’s windshield to certify that it has undergone the LTFRB-sanctioned calibration process.

To be able to have their taxi units calibrated, drivers must bring their calibration form lifted from the LTFRB’s website, franchise verification, current LTO OR/CR, passbook, undertaking (GNSS, Dashcam, CCTV and Wifi), and certificate of accreditation from their company. /kga
