LAMITAN CITY, BASILAN — Vice President Leni Robredo said the Liberal Party had been eyeing former Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in the party’s senatorial ticket in the  upcoming elections next year, though she clarified, no one had talked to Sereno about it yet.

“Hindi pa namin sya nakakausap. May mga nag-nominate ng kanyang pangalan, pero hindi pa namin sya nakakausap,” Robredo said in a chance interview at the weaving village in Barangay Upper Buahan in Lamitan City on Friday.

(We haven’t talked to her yet. Some have nominated her name but we haven’t talked to her.)

Robredo said only one, and that is Senator Bam Aquino, had so far confirmed he was going to run under the LP ticket for senator.

Robredo said Sereno would be an asset to their political party.

“Kung interesado siya, bakit hindi, tingin ko naman, napakalaking addition si former Chief Justice Sereno sa ticket. Sana interesado sya kasi lalo na sa judicial reforms na sinimulan niya sa Supreme Court, isa iyun sa mga pinaka-kailangan natin dito sa bansa natin.”

(If she’s interested, why not? I think the Chief Justice would be a big addition to the (LP) ticket. I hope she’s interested especially because the judicial reforms she had started at the Supreme Court are something that our country needs.)
