Four more Quezon City policemen were relieved of their posts to face investigation on the case of Genesis “Tisoy” Argoncillo, the 25-year-old who was arrested for going shirtless in public and then mauled to death allegedly by fellow detainees.
The relief order from Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, covered Senior Insp. Cyril Dagusen, commander of the Novaliches Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3; Police Officers 1 Ruel Tubat, Paolo Lopez Jr. and Paul Hector Calderon.
Dagusen signed the police and barangay documents on Argoncillo’s arrest on June 15 in line with President Duterte’s order to clear the streets of “tambay” or loiterers.
The three other officers carried out the arrest. Esquivel cited initial findings showing that Argoncillo’s name was later scratched from the list of apprehended persons in Barangay Sauyo that night.
Five officers, including the commander of the QCPD-Novaliches station and duty desk officer, were earlier relieved amid the outrage over Argoncillo’s death. —Jodee A. Agoncillo
