Today, June 28, is the 157th birth anniversary of the late surgeon and patriot Jose Luna.
Born in 1861 at Trozo, Manila, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Ateneo Municipal de Manila and studied medicine at University of Santo Tomas.
He was the municipal physician of Binondo from 1888 to 1896.
During the Filipino-American War, Luna served as a medical officer in the Filipino Army.
He died on Jan. 21, 1917. —Marielle Medina
