UP alumni to launch ‘Tatak UP’ awards
A highlight of the alumni homecoming of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Chapter on Friday, Dec. 2, is the launch of the first “Tatak UP” awards.
About 50 achievers will be recognized for standing out in their field of expertise and making a positive impact in their sector, profession, the community, the UP System or the national/international sphere.
In the criteria set by the 2011 UPAA Cebu Chapter Board under president Atty. Liza D. Corro, the award is given to an alumni member from any unit of the UP System who is based in Cebu, is of known integrity, is recognized for expertise or excellence in his or her field and has demonstrated a social conscience.
Nominations for the award were screened by the 2011 Search Committee headed by Dr. Araceli Almase. Other members of the committee are Atty. Corro, Dr. Madrileña de la Cerna, Dr. Romero Villar, Dr. Sofia Aliño, and Eileen Mangubat.
Awardees will receive statuettes of the Oblation, UP’s icon of academic freedom and public service.
This year’s homecoming carries the theme “Rekindling the UP Spirit” which the awards aim to reinforce by drawing out living examples of the university’s standards of honor and excellence.
