MANILA, Philippines — Roughly P3 million-worth of property was destroyed and at least 300 families were left homeless after a pre-dawn fire razed a squatters’ area in Mandaluyong City, Fire Officer 3 Sheila Balaba said Friday.

Balaba said that around 100 houses were gutted down by the fire that started around 12:42 a.m. in Block 19 B Martinez Street Welfare Ville Compound, Barangay (village) Addition Hills, Plain View, Mandaluyong City. The fire reached Task Force Bravo before it was declared out around 3:10 a.m.

Citing the spot report, Balaba said that the fire started at the house of certain Marissa Petil and family.

No one was seriously hurt, except for one who sustained minor burns, Balaba said.
