LUCENA CITY — A 7-month-old baby boy drowned and two others died Sunday after they were hit by falling trees in Quezon province at the height of Severe Tropical Storm Aghon (international name: Ewiniar).

The Quezon police reported Monday that four fishermen spotted around 11 a.m. the floating body of the baby in the waters off Barangay Ilayang Polo in Pagbilao town.

Investigators found that the victim and his mother were in their shack atop a fish cage in Tayabas Bay at Barangay Punta in neighboring Padre Burgos town at the height of Aghon’s devastation.

In Lucena City, “John,” 14, was sleeping around 3 a.m. at the height of the storm when a palm tree fell into their house in Barangay Ibabang Iyam.

The tree fell into the stomach of the victim, who died on the spot, police said.

In San Antonio town, farmer “Marcelino,” 50, was sleeping alone around 10:30 a.m. inside his nipa hut when a huge acacia tree was uprooted and fell into the hut in Barangay Sampaga.

The tree hit the victim, who also died on the spot. INQ
