MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE 3) Rapper Francis Magalona will be interred at the Christ the King Memorial Chapel at Green Meadows in Quezon City, according to a staff of Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista?s office.
Chute De Vera confirmed this to INQUIRER.net after Harvy Buen, a utility employee of the church, told reporters that it was Bautista who arranged for the interment of Magalona who died at about 12 noon Friday due to multiple organ failure following an almost seven-month battle with leukemia.
Magalona?s name has been posted on the bulletin board of Christ the King.
Bautista is arranging the flow of traffic in the area in anticipation of the huge crowd that is expected to visit the wake of the rapper, De Vera said.
Nestmarie Ramos, corporate communications officer of the Medical City, also confirmed that the Magalonas left the hospital shortly before 4 p.m.
Friends of Magalona rushed to the hospital to condole with his family following news of his death.
Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., an actor, extended his condolences to the Magalona family and paid tribute to the master rapper, saying the country had lost a "modern day artist."
"I would like to express my sincere condolence to the Magalona family for the passing away of Francis Michael Magalona, an icon in the local music industry," Revilla said in a statement on Friday.
"The country has lost a modern-day artist, a nationalist in his own creative way," he said.
Revilla said Magalona used music and fashion to promote love of country among Filipino youth.
"He may be gone but he will always be remembered, his songs and style will live forever," the senator added.
