Tropical Storm “Auring” (international name Sonamu) continued to head out of the country and is expected to exit the Philippine territory Saturday morning, the state weather bureau said Friday.

A passenger vessel ran aground on Thursday, after being hammered by strong winds and waves spawned by tropical depression Auring, but all 228 passengers—many of them students returning to this university town from the holidays—were rescued unharmed, authorities said.

At least 90 families have evacuated their homes in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, as tropical depression “Auring” caused floods due to heavy rains on Thursday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

The weather disturbance brought by tropical depression Auring, which has been affecting several Mindanao areas, prompted the cancellation of all domestic flights from and to Pagadian City, on Thursday, and a prohibition on all sea vessels from sailing into open waters in the Zamboanga peninsula.

The state weather bureau lowered all storm signals except for Palawan where tropical depression “Auring” was headed and could make a landfall if it doesn’t change direction.

The low pressure area being monitored over Northern Mindanao has intensified into a tropical depression now named “Auring”, the state weather bureau said Thursday.
