CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, BULACAN— Government agents seized rifles, grenades and ammunition in a raid of a house believed to be a temporary hideout of the Alvin Flores robbery gang.
No one was at the house in Rocka Village in Plaridel, Bulacan, when the search team came Friday.
The agents also seized police uniforms that police said the gang used in its criminal activities.
Flores, one of the county’s most notorious criminals and leader of the gang believed to be behind the daring robbery in Greenbelt 5 in Makati two weeks ago, was gunned down along with three gang members in a shootout with government agents in a beach house in Compostela, Cebu.
Senior Supt. Diosdado Ramos, acting Bulacan police chief, said the raiders—made up of Bulacan policemen and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents—took 17 hours to get a warrant to legally enter the house. They also made sure there was no booby trap and no one waited in ambush, he said.
The warrant came at about 1 p.m.
Ramos said the house was owned by a certain Arlene Miron, who is now being sought for questioning although police did not say if they consider her a suspect.
Seized were an M-14 rifle, an M-16 rifle fitted with an M-203 grenade launcher, M-203 grenades, pistols and ammunition. Also found were what police described as the robbery gang’s other ‘‘tools of the trade”—bullet-proof vests, a bolt cutter and a sledge hammer.
Ramos said the NBI and Bulacan police agents were pursuing the remnants of the gang.
Police said the gang rented the house as a temporary hideout only two weeks ago. They are also following up on the information that a brother of Alvin Flores rented the house.
‘‘The rest of the gang is now on the run with no leaders to command them,” said Ramos.
‘‘In their rush they were unable to hide their high powered firearms,” he said.
The Flores gang has been implicated in 14 robberies this year and 27 in 2008 in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Flores and three of his men— Richie Gigante Hijapon, Marc Alejandro Bondoc Salamanca, and Roger Sanchez—were killed in the Cebu shootout on Oct. 29.
Arrested in the shootout was Rene Batiencela, who is now being considered as a state witness against gang members. Carmela Reyes, Inquirer Central Luzon
