Livelihood, technology for senior citizens

Filed Under: Computing & Information Technology, Telecommunications Services, Senior Citizens

SENIOR citizens of Parañaque City were offered livelihood opportunities and a customized communications exchange facility by wireless services provider Smart Communications Inc. (Smart).

Smart partnered with the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP) to bring to its members a chance to start a cell phone loading business through ?Load Mo Sarili Mo.?

The FSCAP and its members will also be benefitting from Smart?s Infoboard?the Web-based platform that will allow the association to efficiently send information and receive feedback from its members though their mobile phones.

During FSCAP?s first Senior Citizen Expo and National Convention (Scenac 2011) forum held recently in Parañaque City, Smart encouraged the senior citizens who came from all over the country to ?take an active part in nation building.?

Apart from providing income to the seniors, the program also gives them rebates and reward points,? said Manny Perez, Smart?s department head for key accounts. Through FSCAP?s Infoboard powered by Smart, members can receive announcements and advisories from their association for free, added James Bernas, Smart Community Solutions department head. Smart is one of the sponsors of Scenac 2011 organized to promote awareness of the rights and privileges of senior citizens, their health and livelihood agenda, and their need to adapt to technologies like mobile communications and the Internet to stay informed and empowered.
