MANILA, Philippines – Two policemen were hurt when their patrol car was hit by a speeding truck at an intersection in Sucat, Parañaque City, just before dawn Wednesday.
SPO1 Zosimo Reyes and SPO1 Roldan Emelo, both assigned at the Mobile Patrol Group of the Parañaque police station, were rushed to Parañaque Community Hospital after they sustained injuries in their arms and legs.
Senior Insp. Percival Pineda, chief of the city’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, identified the truck driver as Ely Jazmin Jr. who was immediately arrested after the accident.
According to Pineda, Reyes was driving the police car (with plate number SJA 558 and body number 434) and was making a U-turn on Doña Canaynay Avenue, Barangay San Dionisio around 3:30 a.m. when it was bumped by an oncoming truck (ZFT 268) driven by Jazmin.
The truck’s front left portion, he said, collided head on with the patrol car’s front right panel.
He said the impact caused the police car to hit another truck (RFE 394).
The policemen were momentarily trapped between the crushed metal parts of their vehicle before rescuers were able to get them out, Pineda said in his report.
He said they immediately arrested Jazmin, adding the driver would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in damage to government property and physical injuries.
