MANILA, Philippines—Two men were hurt while five vehicles were damaged when a motorcycle-riding man threw a grenade in front of a businesswoman’s house in Pandacan, Manila, Sunday.
Arturo Dominguez, 66, was wounded in the foot while Reynaldo Yabut, the executive officer of Barangay 856, Zone 93, sustained leg injuries.
The incident happened in front of Anita Buse’s house at 2056 President Quirino Ave. at around 2 a.m.
Dominguez, the businesswoman’s security guard, said he was chatting with Yabut when a man on board a motorcycle wearing a helmet and a red jacket hurled the grenade at them.
The two men said they immediately took cover and in the process, failed to take note of the motorcycle’s plate number.
Senior Insp. Oliver Navales, chief of the Manila Police District’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Section, said in his report that five vehicles which were parked nearby—a Mitsubishi Adventure, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Frontier, Hyundai Starex and Toyota Revo—were damaged in the explosion.
He added that the blast left a hole on the sidewalk about five inches in diameter and around an inch deep. The grenade’s safety lever was found about five meters away from the site.
Navales said they would conduct a deeper probe to establish the identity and motive of the man who threw the grenade.
