MANILA, Philippines – Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar will launch today “Las Piñas 101” to mark the 101st anniversary of the town’s founding and its 11th year as a city.

The celebration will feature a job fair, a citywide cleanup drive and tree-planting, medical and dental services and cultural presentations.

“Las Piñas 101” showcases city initiatives including strengthened basic social services for residents. The city has given priority to free and quality education and health services.

“We ensure free quality education from pre-school through college and free medical and hospital care to Las Piñas residents,” Aguilar said.

Las Piñas, which had been named the “cleanest and greenest city,” will open in June a modern three-story 25-classroom Information Technology (IT) Training Institute that can accommodate 2,500 students.

The new Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Information Technology Training Institute offers a free one-year course on Web Development, Graphic Design and Animation, Networking Professional and Programming.

Aguilar said the school would benefit 60 percent of the 4,000 students graduating from Las Piñas’ public high schools this year.
