CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuela plans to host an alternative summit to Washington's G20 talks on the global financial crisis, to be held here at the end of the month, President Hugo Chavez said Friday.
"We are going to call a meeting in Caracas of the small countries to take decisions about the crisis," Chavez said during a rally outside the capital.
He said among the invited guests at the summit to be held in "the last days of November" would be Bolivian President Evo Morales and Nicaraguan leader Daniel Ortega.
Chavez spoke as leaders from the Group of 20 (G20) richest nations and emerging economic powerhouses gathered for a White House dinner at the start of the weekend talks in Washington, hosted by US President George W. Bush.
"We need to hope that this meeting will end with some positive ideas...but I doubt they will reach any decisions in Washington to solve this crisis. The hurricane that triggered this crisis came from Washington," Chavez said.
Other countries to be invited to Venezuela for the alternative summit would include Cuba, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, he added.
