BATANGAS CITY, Philippines -- Three persons died while about 30 others were hurt when the passenger bus they were riding in collided with a truck and fell into a canal in Sto. Tomas town, Batangas early Saturday. The bus driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

Superintendent Raul Tacaca, Sto. Tomas police chief, said that at around 2 a.m., a PP bus from Davao was traveling along the Maharlika Highway in the village of San Vicente when it collided with a truck transporting groceries.

The Manila-bound bus then fell into a canal.

Tacaca said the driver, whose identity was not immediately available, fell asleep due to the long trip.
