MANILA, Philippines -- A village chief in the city of Laoag was wounded Friday when two motorcycle-riding men shot her outside the village hall in broad daylight, police official said.
Superintendent Wilson Lopez, Laoag City police chief, identified the victim as Maureen Bonoan of Barangay (village) Buttong. Bonoan was shot past 8 a.m. while preparing for a “clean and green” project meeting with other village officials.
The suspects, on-board a motorcycle, shot and hit Bonoan on the leg using a 9-millimeter gun, said Lopez.
Police who conducted follow-up operations were able to intercept the two suspects in the municipality of San Nicolas, he said.
Police are now questioning the suspects, one of which was identified as Mark Gil Valdez, he said.
Bonoan is now getting treatment in the hospital there, Lopez said.
