MANILA, Philippines -- A passenger vessel from Cebu ran aground while maneuvering to dock at Bato port in Leyte on Monday morning, the Coast Guard said.
Seaman First Class Erwin Jamosmos of the Coast Guard District Central Eastern Visayas said the MV Fiji2 of South Pacific Transport Corporation was listing to port as of Monday noon.
All 55 passengers and 17 crewmembers are safe, Jamosmos said.
Jamosmos said people at the port decided to use a wooden ladder to serve as bridge for the passengers across the two yards from the vessel to the port.
He said the crew was preparing to dock at around 5 a.m. when the vessel suddenly ran aground.
MV Fiji2 left Cebu port at 9 p.m. on Sunday.
