JBC to reduce nominees for SC associate justice

MANILA, Philippines ? The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will meet this Wednesday to cut down names of aspirants to the Supreme Court which will be submitted to President Benigno Aquino III, a spokesman for the high court said.

Jose Midas Marquez said the meeting would be at 2pm.

From the shortlist, the President will choose who should fill the post vacated by Renato Corona after he was appointed chief justice.

Strongest contenders are Court of Appeals Associate Justices Jose Reyes, Noel Tijam, Remedios Salazar-Fernando, Hakim Abdulwahid, Jaapar Dimaampao and Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Francisco Villaruz.
