MANILA, Philippines? If elected President, Liberal Party standard-bearer Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III would set up a commission in his first 100 days in office to go after the alleged crimes of the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Aquino said that he would set up the commission to ensure "closure" to the unresolved issues hounding the present government.

"We want to set up an office or commission that will create a mechanism that would provide closure to all the issues in this current administration," Aquino said in a television interview.

He said the commission would be modeled after the Presidential Commission on Good Government which went after the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses.

"If there is a crime, someone should pay. There should be a mechanism so that there would be closure for items like `Hello Garci,' the fertilizer fund scam and the ZTE (broadband scandal)," Aquino said.

The ?Hello Garci? scandal involved the surfacing of audiotapes of phone conversations between the President and an election official over her one-million vote margin in the 2004 presidential elections.

The fertilizer fund scam was about the alleged diversion of over P700 million in government fertilizer subsidies to the campaign kitty of Arroyo and her political allies.

The National Broadband Network deal with China?s ZTE Corp. had to be scrapped by Arroyo when several witnesses surfaced to testify that the contract was overpriced and riddled with kickbacks for select Arroyo allies.
