MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) Senator Manny Villar has officially named Senator Loren Legarda as his running mate in 2010.

Villar, in a simple ceremony Tuesday at the Laurel House in Mandaluyong City, described his tandem with Legarda as a "perfect-fit."

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is not difficult to understand why a Villar-Legarda tandem is a perfect fit," he said, adding it was not motivated by "political accommodation but by a common vision for the country.

They share the same belief in a new kind of governance, politics and leadership needed for the country to move forward, he said.

They also share the same advocacy to protect the overseas Filipino workers and the need to achieve peace and order in Mindanao, Villar said.

?The Manny and Loren tandem is seasoned. It?s never done just for popularity. Not formed out of debt of gratitude or emotion. The Manny and Loren tandem is shaped by our shared dream for the country,? he said.

Villar is president of the Nacionalista Party while Legarda belongs to the Nationalist People's Coalition founded by businessman Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco.

Legarda was among those who ousted Villar from the Senate presidency in November last year.

She also supported a Senate inquiry into the allegedly anomalous C-5 road extension project, involving Villar.

But Legarda made a sudden turnaround when she signed a resolution, along with 11 other senators, seeking the dismissal of the ethics case against Villar.

The former Senate president said Legarda would be his partner in promoting a ?clean and trustworthy governance.?

And to those who have criticized him for not immediately revealing his vice president, Villar said, "Good things come to those who wait."

"After all, you get the chicken not by smashing it but by waiting for the egg to hatch," he said.
