MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region police office will be closely monitoring the movement of its men and the protesters through the use of closed circuit television cameras scattered in different cities for Wednesday’s anti-Charter change protest, said Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales.
The use of CCTV cameras will show whether the anti-riot squads will be observing proper police decorum in dealing with protesters and to ensure that no criminals or terrorists will infiltrate the ranks of the rallyists as they gather at Makati City’s financial district at 3 p.m., Rosales said.
Metro Manila police are ready for “all scenarios” and to “defend Metro Manila and Malacanang Palace against threat groups and criminal elements that may take advantage of the situation,” the NCRPO chief said.
The Philippine National Police has activated Task Force Manila Shield on Tuesday ahead of the protests.
Metro Manila has retained its heightened alert status as well.
Thousands are expected to attend the protest today, including politicians and various cause-oriented groups.
Some 5,000 policemen will be deployed in the rally area and in Don Chino Roces Bridge (formerly Mendiola).
Another 1,500 men from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PNP Special Action Force (SAF) will be deployed as additional reinforcement, Rosales said.
Eleven chokepoints have also been activated at the boundaries of Metro Manila going to and from both Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog regions to prevent terror groups from entering Metro Manila.
