MANILA, Philippines—The House justice committee could decide on the substance of the impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo by Wednesday, its head said Thursday.
"We might vote on it by Wednesday," Quezon City Representative Matias Defensor said in a forum.
The endorsers of the complaint will present their charges on Monday's hearing, then on Tuesday administration allies will be asked to respond to the charges.
Defensor said there will only be one voting to determine the complaint’s sufficiency in substance, instead of different voting per charge.
Bayan Muna party list Representative Teodoro Casiño said the pro-impeachment bloc will push for a separate voting for every charge, saying that if the committee rules that one charge is sufficient in substance, the complaint can be sent to the Senate for trial.
