MANILA, Philippines -- Commission on Elections chairman Jose Melo said he believed that the elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao should push through although the decision to postpone it would really be Congress? call.
At the same time, Melo said the ARMM election was not only for ARMM but in preparation for the 2010 polls.
?It is really the call of Congress. It is up to the Senate and the House of Representatives to look into the matter,? said Melo in an interview shortly after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has endorsed the postponement of the August 11 elections to make way for recent developments in peace negotiations with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said Tuesday that several lawmakers committed to file a bill in Congress to reset the ARMM elections when session resumes on July 28.
But Melo said that he ?personally believed that this election in ARMM was not only really for ARMM.?
?They are in preparation for 2010. We should go into this as much as possible,? said Melo.
