MANILA, Philippines ? Barely on its second week, the nationwide election gun ban has netted more than 350 violators, most of them were government employees and law enforcement units, a police official said on Friday.
On Thursday alone, checkpoints led by the Commission on Elections apprehended 41 persons nationwide ? two were policemen, another two were soldiers, 36 civilians, and a government employee.
This brought to 357 the total number of those apprehended for violating the nationwide election gun ban, said police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina.
Of the total arrested violators, 28 were policemen, 24 were soldiers, 292 were civilians, and 13 were government employees.
Espina said the total number of firearms seized was 314. Authorities also seized five grenades and 32 bladed weapons.
All those arrested will be facing criminal charges, the spokesman said.
