Police pressed to find killer of Palace exec’s son

MANILA, Philippines?Malacañang has ordered Philippine National Police Director General Jesus Verzosa to exhaust all means to solve last Wednesday's fatal shooting of the son of a Malacañang official.

"We condemn in the strongest possible sense the murder of Mr. Renato Victor Ebarle Jr.,'' Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said over the government-run dzRB radio. "We have ordered the PNP to leave no stone unturned in solving this crime.''

The PNP has launched a manhunt for Jason Ivler, who is suspected of shooting Ebarle to death after their cars nearly collided on Santolan Road in Quezon City Wednesday night, according to Remonde, quoting Verzosa.

Ebarle was the son of Malacañang chief of staff Renato Ebarle Sr. and a recruitment manager of the Manila Peninsula Hotel.

Ivler is the step-son of Briton Stephen Pollard, an economist at the Asian Development Bank. He is the son of Pollard's wife, Marlene Aguilar, from a previous marriage.

Pollard is the registered owner of the Honda CRV, which carries a diplomatic plate, that Ivler was reportedly driving when he shot and killed the young Ebarle.

Remonde appealed to Ivler to surrender to the authorities and shed light on Ebarle's killing.

"We take this opportunity to call on the suspect and everyone who knows him to peacefully give him up to the authorities, even to me in Malacañang, to give justice to the conscienceless murder of the only son of Undersecretary Ebarle,'' he said.

Once arrested, the police should not let Ivler go scot-free, Remonde said, saying, "We're holding the PNP responsible that they won't allow the suspect to get away.''

Police had also linked Ivler to a vehicular accident in 2004 that resulted in the death of Nestor Ponce, presidential adviser for resettlement, wondering why he had being moving around freely despite his arrest in 2004 in Zamboanga City.
