MANILA, Philippines ? Strong winds and heavy rains toppled a tree in the Department of Justice (DoJ) compound, damaging three cars, at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The tree trunk directly fell on a red Toyota Vios owned by State Prosecutor Xerxes Garcia. The roof of Garcia?s car caved in while his tires blew out because of the impact.
The windshield of a green Mitsubishi Lancer owned by Elizabeth Ting of the Finance and Management Service was shattered.
A gray Suzuki Vitara owned by State Prosecutor Amor Robles was dented as well by the branches of the tree.
Guards at the DOJ said the uprooted tree is more than 50 years old.
The rains were caused by tropical storm ?Feria,? which made landfall over Eastern Samar province late Tuesday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
