MANILA, Philippines--A woman and her 22-year-old niece died from a fire that gutted their two-story home in Almanza, Las Pinas City, on Sunday morning.
Chief Insp. Robert Pacis said the bodies of victims Carol del Rosario, 45, and Hazel Bautista, were found on the second-floor bathroom, where they apparently hid from the blaze that struck around 7:45 a.m. in their Dolores Street residence.
"They were trapped because all the windows on the second floor had grills," he said.
The fire, which reached the first alarm, was put out at 8:30 a.m. Damage to property was estimated at P3 million.
