MANILA ? The City of San Juan launched its own website last week, a project that aims to promote transparency in the local government and reach out to residents and investors alike.
The website, www.sanjuancity.gov.ph, went online early last week. "We just deemed that there is a need to improve the previous site of San Juan to correspond to the ever flourishing economy of the city," Mayor Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito said in a statement.
The official city online portal features the telephone numbers of local government officials ? from the mayor to barangay (village) officials? information on city rules and processes, historical landmarks and organizational charts.
Ejercito said the website would enable residents to check city ordinances and regulations. In addition, residents who need to apply for permits can avoid the long lines at City Hall by downloading forms from the website.
"The website is just part of our mission to uphold transparency in our government so that the people of San Juan are given access to every information about San Juan, its leaders and governance," he added.
The site also has links with the city police and national agencies. A calendar of events shows the list of activities and deadlines set by the local government for the payment of taxes and the renewal of permits.
