When 14-year-old Jairus Miguel Monsanto was diagnosed with congenital heart disease in 2012, surgery was not an option for his doctors.

“They wanted him to leave him untouched, that is, they wanted him to live with a hole in his heart,” his mother Jasmine told the Inquirer.

At that time, doctors at Philippine Heart Center were not very optimistic about his chances of surviving the operation, she said.

Several years and medical checkups later, doctors have recommended surgery to close the hole in Jairus’ heart. Now aged 14, the teenager is a second year high school student at Timoteo Paez Integrated School in Tondo.

Doctors have told Jasmine and her husband, Michael, who works as a messenger, to raise P82,000 for the operation.

“Through you, I am looking for people who can help us with our financial need. May God bless them more in return,” Jasmine said.

She can be reached at 0943-8273826. Donations may be deposited in her Metrobank account (Jasmine Monsanto #176-3-176-02770-4).
